Kobo Revealed Their Brand New Kobo Elipsa 2E eReader

The first-generation Kobo Elipsa was released in 2021. Now Kobo has officially revealed the upcoming second-generation Kobo Elipsa, called the Kobo Elipsa 2E. Here’s a video that showcases its main functions. 

The Kobo Elipsa series is a versatile e-reader that is capable of a wide range of features and functions. Kobo Plus is now available in the US and UK!

Kobo Plus subscriptions are now available in the US and the UK. It was already available in France, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and New Zealand. 

Bart Robers, Kobo's director of audiobooks and global subscriptions, said in a press release on Wednesday: "At Kobo, we're always working to make the reading experience better and more accessible, and there's nothing as gratifying as saying 'read as much as you want for a set monthly fee,' which is exactly what our Kobo Plus subscription offers."

Kobo offers 1.3 million ebooks and 100,000 audiobooks for Kobo Plus subscribers. And Kobo Plus service has three subscription plans: 

1. Kobo Plus Read - Allows you to access over 1.3 million eBooks. 
2. Kobo Plus Listen - Allows you to access over 100,000 audiobooks. 
3. Kobo Plus Read and Listen - Allows you to access over 1.3 million eBooks and 100,000 audiobooks.

Kobo Plus Read and Kobo Plus Listen cost $7.99 a month, and Kobo Plus Read and Listen costs $9.99 a month.  And all the content can be read or listened to on any Kobo eReader or with the Kobo app. 

Now Kobo Plus can be a strong competitor against Amazon Unlimited subscription, which costs $9.99 a month and offers more than 3 million eBooks.

Notice, both Kobo Plus and Kindle Unlimited books are not owned by you since they are just rental services.

The First Software Update for the Kindle Scribe is Available Now!

Amazon finally releases new firmware for Kindle Scribe, which adds practical and useful features to improve the device. You can manually update your Kindle eReader software here. 

The new firmware Software version 5.16.1.2 includes some new pen options, the ability to jump to any pages in your notebook and create subfolders within subfolders, and new screensaver images designed exclusively for Kindle Scribe. Go To Page in Notebook: Quickly navigate to a specific page in your notebook. Open the main toolbar, tap on the overflow menu, and select Go to page. Enter a page number in the dialog box and tap on “Go” to navigate to that page.

Subfolders on Notebooks tab: You can now create folders inside other folders, and also move folders into other folders via the Move option (accessible by tapping on the overflow menu on the folder’s cover, or long pressing on the folder’s name or cover).

New screen savers: New screen saver images designed exclusively for Kindle Scribe. To see the new images on your device, simply make sure the Display Cover feature is turned off (More > Settings > Display Options) and lock your screen.

Pen Options: In the writing toolbar, you can choose from four Pen types, each with five thickness options. These Pen types are also available in Settings > Pen Settings > Shortcut Button to configure with your Premium Pen.

Z-Library is Back Again!

Despite the legal challenges, the Z-Library project has gained significant support from users, particularly students and researchers in underfunded institutions who rely on its resources for their studies and work. 

Z-Library project plays an indispensable role in some users' lives. It has caused great inconvenience to lose access to Z-library, especially for users who haven't downloaded their books or articles from their library yet. For budget-tight users, this site really means a lot to them. They just can't live without Z-library.

Kindle Unlimited Books can't be Downloaded via USB

Obviously, Amazon is making it more difficult to remove DRM from purchased Kindle ebooks. Amazon just changed their encryption scheme again, such that any book published in 2023 or newer is using a new KFX format that is as of yet uncrackable by DeDRM tools. Users can downgrade the Kindle app to skip the KFX format before, however, this new change requires users to update the Kindle app in order to download the content. The good news is that you are still able to remove Kindle DRM if you can download Kindle books via USB if you have a Kindle e-Ink device. This solution is only limited to your purchased Kindle books.

The bad news is that all Kindle Unlimited books are no longer available to download or transfer by USB due to the new KFX format. Amazon even updated the Kindle Unlimited help page on their website with the following:

Note: Borrowed titles can be delivered to and accessed on WiFi-enabled Kindle devices or through the Kindle app, but they cannot be downloaded or transferred via USB.

If this particular limitation applies only to loans, it may be to protect borrowed books from being stripped of DRM. It makes sense. Because you don't own any of this content, it is just lent to you for the duration of an active subscription.

If you don’t want your purchased Kindle books being forever locked into Amazon’s ecosystem, it would be wise to make backups of all your Kindle ebooks in AZW format in case Amazon eventually transitions everything to KFX format with unbreakable DRM.
