Requiem key not found? Solutions for Requiem errors

Requiem is a nice tool to remove DRM from eBooks purchased from iTunes iBookStore, it's a totally free and open-source tool. Also because it's a free and open-source tool, the tool is not that easy to use and often fails to work normally.

Therefore, here we collect some common questions and offer you the solutions.

Frequently asked questions

Answers

Q: I open the software, but nothing happend, what's going on?

A: 1,For Mac users, make sure your operating system is Mac OS X 10.5+; if you are a PC user, the system should be Windows XP SP3 or later version. What's more, you should make sure your iTunes is V 10.5.3.

2,Requiem must run in a Java environment, if you are PC user, you'd better install 32-bit Java. (The writter is engaging in making it work perfect in 64-bit Java)

3,Make sure your Requiem doesn't miss any file, because the tool's official site is encrypted and that may lead to a download interruption.  If you can't guarantee a complete download, this Facebook tab can help you.

Q: Requiem can't find the DRM proteced file in my computer.

A: 1,Delete the files in your iTunes software's library panel and in your computer disk.

2,Login iTunes by the ID which purchased the ebook.

3,Re-download the ebook.

Q: "Can't find version 301".

A: The majority reason of this error is the iTunes ID. And sometimes, decrypt ebooks purchased in non-US Store will lead this error.

1,Delete the file in your iTunes Library and your computer.

2,Delete the KEY file. " /Users/Shared/SC Info/SC Info.sidb "

3,Login iTunes by the ID which purchased the ebook.

4,Re-download the ebook.

5,Run Requiem

Soft Maker's answer: "Requiem only knows how to remove DRM from ebooks that have the key data stored in 3.01 format. Some ebooks apparently have the key stored in a different format. I'm working on this one, may be a while."

Q: Where is my original file?

A: The original file will be replaced by DRM-free file and moved to trash. You can find it in Recycle Bin.

Q: "Key not found. Can iTunes play this file?"

A: It appears the issue is JAVA related.

1,Uninstall JAVA completely and then installed only the 32-bit version of JAVA.

2,Deauthorize system and completely deleted all files in the iTunes directory (SC Info)." /Users/Shared/SC Info/SC Info.sidb "

3,Reauthorize the system, re-download ebooks..

4,Ran requiem, decypt all of them.

Q: "Key store version too new. You need a newer version of Requiem"

A:  This issue is about the Requiem & iTunes version. Requiem 3.3.5 released earlier than iTunes 10.6, therefore, Requiem 3.3.5 can't decrypt some new DRM method in iTunes 10.6. But it can be soluted.

1, Uninstall all the files about iTunes 10.6, including iTunes, AppService, and so on.

2, Delete the whole iTunes Library folder. The path is usually  "X:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes". Remenber to delete the whole folder.

3, Download & install the iTunes 10.5.3.

4, Login iTunes Store, re-download the eBooks.

5, Run Requiem 3.3.5, decrypt all of them.

Q: " java.lang.IllegalArgumentException" or "java.lang.NullPointerException"

A:  This issue is mainly caused by the Java.

Although Requiem 3.3.5 has improved its supporting for 64-bit Java, but there still are some problems.

If you've met these problems, uninstall the 64-bit java completely, then install 32-bit java, then you can remove iBooks DRM successfully.

As I said above, the tool is a free and open-source tool, we even can't see any advertisement on the tool or author's official site, he doesn't make any profit by it. So it is rational that the tool will make mistakes sometimes. (Well, often...)

If the solutions above all fail to help you, here is a solution that has helped more than 80% of people who have trouble in using Requiem.
Find a clean computer, no java ever installed, no iTunes installed. Then install 32-bit java and the iTunes 10.5.3, run Requiem 3.3.5.

eBooks replace paper books? Too early to draw conclusion

The blooming of Kindle, Nook and other eBooks reader devices has promoted the eBooks industry in popularity, according to the BookStats' survey (which is administered by the Book Industry Study Group and the Association of American Publishers),  the sales for eBooks has doubled last year, and exceed the hardcover's sales for the first time.

eBook's popularity has affected the paper book's sales, the data shows the paper book's revenue decreased from $ 12.1 billion in 2010 to $ 11.1 billion in 2011. Although having trouble in making progress in sales, it may have more of a chance in making money. The income obtained by the publisher from the digital reading has made up for losses caused by the shrinking of the physical book market. The survey says the U.S. publishing market remained stable in 2011, the publisher's net revenue reached $ 13.97 billion, compared to $ 13.9 billion in 2010, there was an increase of 0.5%.

Previously,  American Publishers' attitude towards eBooks is not positive because of the limited types of eBooks and the inefficient publishing. An important reason why traditional publishers can keep calm is they grasp the core of the publishing industry - content resources, the writer must rely on publishers.

But now, Amazon is not only pulling away readers from bookstore, but also pulling away writers from the publisher, traditional publishers begin facing the risk of being replaced.

Last year, the book retailer Borders Group filed for bankruptcy protection due to insolvency, as a traditional book store established in 1971, they once to store across the United States in the 1990s, and they are only second the Barnes & Noble in U.S. But they failed to keep the pace of the digital wave.

Within 24 hours of Borders' bankruptcy, the RED retail group in Australia also announced that they are entering the insolvency proceedings.

E-book sales showed strong growth, but because of the higher profits of paper books, especially the hardcover book, and reader habits, sales of paper books is still dominant.  Managing Director of Book Industry Study Group Len Vlahos said:

Ebooks have demonstrated unprecedented acceptance among readers but the various print formats remain dynamic as well, showing that consumers want options

Digital publishing is the wave of trend, but paper books still hold a considerable market. When promoting the digitization process,  the publisher should grasp the diverse needs of the readers at the same time.

Aldiko Book Reader, a free android eBook reader to make you read eBooks happily

Aldiko Book Reader is not strange to most ebook enthusiasts, especially to those who incline to read ebooks on android tablets or smartphones. However, if you are new to android ebook readers and have been persecuted by various ebook stores and proprietary apps for them as well as the ubiquitous drm protection, Aldiko Book Reader, a free android ebook reader, might be an optimal choice for you. It's convenient and versatile!

Why do we choose Aldiko Book Reader?

9 must read books in summer holidays

Summer holidays are coming again, here are some must read eBooks for you or your kids.

1, A Song of Ice and Fire (1-4)

The TV series make more people know this book, and as most of TV shows which is adapted from novels, you will be attracted even deeper by these books.

Amazon said: Readers of epic fantasy series are: (1) patient--they are left in suspense between each volume, (2) persistent--they reread or at least review the previous book(s) when a new installment comes out, (3) strong--these 700-page doorstoppers are heavy, and (4) mentally agile--they follow a host of characters through a myriad of subplots. In A Game of Thrones, the first book of a projected six, George R.R. Martin rewards readers with a vividly real world, well-drawn characters, complex but coherent plotting, and beautifully constructed prose, which Locus called "well above the norms of the genre."

2,Steve Jobs

The must read book for those people who want make their dreams come true and change the world.

Amazon Best Books of the Month, November 2011: It is difficult to read the opening pages of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs without feeling melancholic. Jobs retired at the end of August and died about six weeks later. Now, just weeks after his death, you can open the book that bears his name and read about his youth, his promise, and his relentless press to succeed. But the initial sadness in starting the book is soon replaced by something else, which is the intensity of the read--mirroring the intensity of Jobs’s focus and vision for his products. Few in history have transformed their time like Steve Jobs, and one could argue that he stands with the Fords, Edisons, and Gutenbergs of the world. This is a timely and complete portrait that pulls no punches and gives insight into a man whose contradictions were in many ways his greatest strength. --Chris Schluep

3, The Kings of Cool

This is the prequel to Savages, now it has been made into a film.

“A fast, fun, smart jazz-riff of a book, a prequel to Savages and every bit as good. . . . What sets Winslow apart in the crowded field of crime/mystery/thriller writers is the white-knuckled way he writes and thinks. The dialogue is sharp and funny, full of knowing nods to pop culture, history and geography. . . . A frenzied ride into the heart of what family and love and loyalty mean.”  —John Wilkens, San Diego Union-Tribune

4,Digital Vertigo: How Today's Online Social Revolution Is Dividing, Diminishing, and Disorienting Us

"Andrew Keen is that rarest of authors: one has taken the time to understand the benefits of technological innovation before warning us of its risks. In Digital Vertigo Keen finds himself in a dizzying world where it is not just possible to share every detail of our professional and private lives, but actually expected. While a growing number of his friends -- including those in the upper echelons of Silicon Valley society -- preach the gospel of total transparency and cyber-oversharing, he refuses to blindly click the "accept" button. Instead he takes us on a guided tour of the history of privacy, solitude and the technology of socialization -- before encouraging us to take a long, hard look at our lives before we blindly allow others to do the same. A vital and timely book that's terrifying, fascinating, persuasive and reassuring all at the same time. And one that will make even the biggest Facebook-o-phile or Linked-in-a-holic think twice before adding another contact to their network."  --Paul Carr, author of Bringing Nothing to the Party and The Upgrade

5, Monkey Mind: A Memoir of Anxiety

In the insightful narrative tradition of Oliver Sacks, Monkey Mind is an uplifting, smart, and very funny memoir of life with anxiety—America’s most common psychological complaint.

We all think we know what being anxious feels like: It is the instinct that made us run from wolves in the prehistoric age and pushes us to perform in the modern one. But for 40 million American adults, anxiety is an insidious condition that defines daily life. Yet no popular memoir has been written about that experience until now.

6, You are Not a Gadget

Jaron Lanier, a Silicon Valley visionary since the 1980s, was among the first to predict the revolutionary changes the World Wide Web would bring to commerce and culture. Now, in his first book, written more than two decades after the web was created, Lanier offers this provocative and cautionary look at the way it is transforming our lives for better and for worse.

7, Calico Joe

Whatever happened to Calico Joe?

It began quietly enough with a pulled hamstring. The first baseman for the Cubs AAA affiliate in Wichita went down as he rounded third and headed for home. The next day, Jim Hickman, the first baseman for the Cubs, injured his back. The team suddenly needed someone to play first, so they reached down to their AA club in Midland, Texas, and called up a twenty-one-year-old named Joe Castle. He was the hottest player in AA and creating a buzz.

8, Generation Xbox: How Videogames Invaded Hollywood

Hollywood is under attack from videogames. Movies defined the 20th century but games are now pushing them aside as the medium that captures our time, fascination and money. Generation Xbox digs into the love-hate relationship between games and cinema that has led us to this point. It's a story of disaster, triumph and Angelia Jolie in hot pants. Learn how Steven Spielberg's game-making dreams fell apart and why Silicon Valley pioneers wooed Stanley Kubrick.

9, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

A young woman walks into a laboratory. Over the past two years, she has transformed almost every aspect of her life. She has quit smoking, run a marathon, and been promoted at work. The patterns inside her brain, neurologists discover, have fundamentally changed.

Marketers at Procter & Gamble study videos of people making their beds. They are desperately trying to figure out how to sell a new product called Febreze, on track to be one of the biggest flops in company history. Suddenly, one of them detects a nearly imperceptible pattern—and with a slight shift in advertising, Febreze goes on to earn a billion dollars a year.

He just forgot his boots with the fur.

A hot news on TechCrunch with an eye-catching photo. I can find any one word to describe it.

Every morning, my lovely girlfriend walks through Grand Central Station in New York City on her way to work, and every morning, she sees something odd. Such is the nature of living in the Big Apple.

This happened: she saw a man — a regular dude in slacks and a button-down — carrying his iPad in his butt.

Can't see the details? No worries, here I am to post this blog to make all of you lose your words. :)

Excellent comment: "I'm assuming these are his Applebottom jeans and he just forgot his boots with the fur."

War is coming. Apple joins the battle of 7-inch tablets

In my last 2 post, I've introduce you the Nexus 7, and the coming new Kindle Fire.
Today, the bloomberg light the bomb, "Here Comes Nexus 7 Nightmare: The iPad mini"

Bloomberg has successfully predicted the first generation Kindle Fire, and the Nexus 7, we have no reason to ignore bloomberg's revelations about the iPad mini.

Now let's face the cruel war.

In Google I/O last week, Google released Nexus 7, the gorgeous appearance, comfortable feeling on hand, in-time allocation, and the rational price make it attract the world's concern. Someone even can't wait for 2 weeks and purchased a Nexus 7 on ebay with the price $1825.

Amazon is also likely to launch the new version of "7-inch Kindle Fire", and a "10-inch Kindle Fire 2". According to Amazon's tradition, they definitely won't sell it with a higher price. And Amazon in enhancing its killer-resource, the huge and cheap Amazon Store.

Although occupying at least 60% of tablet market, Apple is also feeling the pressure from the cheaper 7-inch tablets. Therefore, it's very reasonable for Apple to release a iPad mini to defend its market share.

But not everyone is exciting with the iPad mini. Cnet has launched a survey, from the report we can see that many people are not interested in a smaller iPad. And some people don't believe that Apple will release a iPad Mini.

And I want to claim it again, Bloomberg is not a tabloid, with the reasons above, I believe Apple will launch a smaller iPad (iPad Mini).

Do you believe the iPad Mini? And if yes, do you have the will to get one?
