Google Play Books app is an excellent alternative to the Kindle app. As a free ebook reader app coming from Google, it gives you access to a large bookstore with a collection of millions of books and also lets you upload your epub/pdf books from other sources to create your own library. Besides, you can easily sync the bookmarks and notes to Google Drive or share them with others for collaboration. Better still, you can sync ebooks across mobile and computer once you upload them to the cloud. In this post, I will guide you on how to upload ebooks to Google Play Books step by step.
Before we start, there are a few points we need to know:
- Google Play Books only supports DRM-free EPUB and PDF files. Kindle books (KFX, AZW, AZW3, Mobi) and any other DRM-protected files (e.g. Kobo/Nook ebooks) cannot be uploaded. For such files, you can use Epubor Ultimate to help you remove the eBook DRM and convert them to EPUB or PDF.
- Books can be added to Google Books either from the computer or Android app. You cannot add ebooks from an iPhone or iPad. But don't worry, the books uploaded from the computer or Android app will sync automatically across devices so you can also read them on iPhone or iPad.
- Here this guide only introduces the steps of adding ebooks to Google Play Books from the computer as it's much easier than from an Android device.
