Three Steps to Steal Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the first peer-to-peer payment network and digital currency, which was introduced in 2009 by pseudonymous developer “Satoshi Nakamoto”. There’re three main ways including exchanges, mining and online services to get Bitcions.

Although with a very powerful encryption method such as encrypting your emails using the GNU Privacy Guard, it’s frequently revealed by the media that Bitcoins have been stolen. How does the digital theft work? As the owner of Bitcoins, the more details you know, the better you can protect your own property. Put simply, this stealing process includes the following steps: copying the keys, laundering money and changing money.

1.Copying the Keys

Bitcoin has a public ledger system which called the blockchain. It keeps track of an ever-expanding list of addresses and how many units of Bitcoin are at those addresses. By checking out the private cryptographic key, it confirms whether or not you’re the owner of Bitcoins. So, for thieves, it’s necessary to get the private keys.

They attacked online services which store the private keys for a mass of users and copied the database of private keys. Then they could control Bitcoins at these addresses under the circumstance of not moving them by the original owners.

2.Laundering Money

This is a key step to shifting Bitcoins from the original owners. Blockchain has a public record to which address the Bitcoins were transferred next, but for the moment, it’s not very useful for capturing the thieves, because Bitcoins is anonymous. With technological improvements, some clues the thieves left behind will be detected someday.

Laundering Bitcoin is done with “tumbler”, which randomly crisscross your Bitcoins with other users’ Bitcoins so that you get a clean address. Note that the whole process is operated as described below.

①The thief must transfer his stolen Bitcoins to a new address by the tumbler. He creates a new account firstly.
②The tumbler makes a note for him to transfer the same amount of Bitcoins from other users to the new address.
③There’s a clear path from the original owner’s address, so the tumbler doesn't make the transfer right away.
④Some time later, all his Bitcoins will transfer into his new address in the form of a small amount every time. It doesn't attract people’s attention like this.
⑤Because the tumbler is only accessible through the anonymizing Tor network, it’s hard for police to find any trace of the thief.

3.Changing Money

Now the thief has got clean Bitcoins. Owing to the fact that many places don’t accept Bitcoins, the thief has to convert his Bitcoins to real money. To find a rich buyer who just wants to get a discount and doesn't care about the thief's identity. It’s necessary to exchange as long as several months for safety.

Surface 2 vs. iPad Air: Which is better?

The Surface 2 has appeared in our eyes, which has the forward-looking shape design and compact size. It’s diverged in the two versions, including Surface RT 2 and Surface Pro 2. Surface RT 2 is often compared to iPad Air. In terms of popularity, Surface RT 2 is junior to iPad Air. But why? Let’s look at the following reasons.

1. Higher Price

The price of Surface RT 2 turns out to be similar in iPad Air, but the speed of Microsoft processor is far beyond Apple. Apple are running A7 chipset and ios 7, which claims that it’s eight times faster than the previous model. However, Microsoft are running NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chip and running Windows RT 8.1. The original Tegra was plagued with under-performance issues.

2. Limited Function

The Microsoft ads look very cool, but the Surface RT 2 is just a tablet in nature and only supports applications from the windows marketplace. It has a large of limited functions that cannot run exe programs and haven’t an intuitive UI, even though the interface looks just like win8.

3. Too Few Apps

Actually, the iTunes store has an impressive selection (over one million), making the Windows selection look rather pathetic in comparison.

4. Screen Dims

It has an object of public denunciation when you game it seems like the brightness dims. Recently, a Microsoft spokesman said that they will go to fix the defect.

Generally speaking, iPad Air, for performance, function and entertainment, is vastly superior to Surface 2. If you’re simply intent on buying a tablet as a laptop replacement then the Surface 2 has to be considered.

Ok Google vs. Siri: Which is better?

It’s no secret that Google and Apple are fierce rivals. When Apple introduced the iPhone 4s and released Siri at the same time in 2011, it shook up the market. Only a short time later, Google Now was launched as a great response to Siri by Google, which is no worse than Apple in terms of development technologies.

Recently, Google brought “Ok Google” voice search to Chrome, users just download Google Voice Search Holtword for free from the Chrome Web Store and enable this feature by clicking the microphone icon on the right side of the search box, they can search by voice without ever touching the keyboard. Sadly, the Google Search Holtword Extension is just a beta and only works on Google.com now.

In such a situation Google Now and Ok Google work together, it’s an advantage against Siri. Well, which is better Siri or Ok Google? Below are pros and cons to both Siri and Ok Google, let’s look at contrast analyses which Natasha made.

1. Voice-to-Text

Google Now does basic dictation and the words appear as you speak without need for Internet connection. Whereas with Siri, you can't see all the transcription errors until you stop talking.
Siri has a better understanding of formatting controls. Whereas with Google Now, it can only understand basic symbols, like “period”, “comma”, “question mark” and “exclamation point”.

2. Semantic Comprehension

Sometimes, Siri is delay in simply understanding what user's saying, whereas with Ok Google, it won't let you down. There's a test to have done. In New York, someone took a train bound for Brazil and asked Siri what the weather was like in São Paulo (Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, is 500 miles away from São Paulo, and its weather so distinctive, we could say it's a different country.), Siri replied, "Here's the weather for Brasilia, Brazil, through Wednesday next week." When he asked Ok Google, Ok Google replied, "Here's the weather forecast for São Paulo, Brazil, for Sunday night."
Additionally, Ok Google used a web service to correct what it had understood initially from the question to something that made complete sense. But Siri usually just apologizes for not getting what user said. Ok Google does better in speech recognition.

3. Internet Search

Google is the best search engine in the world, so Ok Google excels at providing Internet search. Ok Google is much smarter than Siri when it comes to web searches. You can use Ok Google to search, get directions, send messages, and perform other common tasks. If you make the same request, Ok Google is always faster and more accurate in carrying out your instruction.

4. Convenient Operation

When you drive carefully and need help from both Siri and Google Now, Siri has a clear superiority in convenient operation. You can ask Siri without turning your eyes away, whereas with Google Now, you have to click on the microphone icon. How unsafe it is to drive. Be assured that Moto X is an exception, and Nexus 5 has made the switch to access Google Now without actually touching it. That's a good development.

5. OS Compatibility

As is known to all, Siri is so loyal to Apple and can only be used on iOS. Google Now runs well whether iOS or Android.

6. Other Features

Ok Google records a few seconds of ambient background noise in temporary memory to improve processing of your voice input, Google Cloud is evolving faster and the layer of intelligence is being studied.

All in all, Ok Google is just introduced and will be refined with a strong technical support, and Siri is a good choice as a personal assistant.

New Kindle Paperwhite Will Come Out in Spring 2014

According to TechCrunch, it claims to have seen a prototype of the next-generation Kindle Paperwhite which is more in line with Amazon’s Kindle HDX tablets line. The new Paperwhite is reportedly codenamed “Ice Wine” and will be published next spring. But a spokesperson of Amazon only replied that “We don’t comment on rumors and speculation.” when NBC News reached out to confirm the news. Now a few hardware improvements of the new Paperwhite are summarized on the basis of what the Tech site reported.

1. Higher Resolution Display

“Ice Wine” will go from a 212 ppi screen to 300 ppi and become a more serious competitor for the Kobo Aura HD which has 265 ppi.

2. Ambient Light Sensor

That the light sensor is believed to be on board is an impressive-sounding automatic brightness. It can adjust the brightness of the screen, taking into account ambient conditions.

3. Glass Screen

A matte glass, instead of good ol’ plastic, will be applied to “Ice Wine”. The switch to glass has no effect on weight. “Ice Wine” is said to be lighter than its predecessor.

4. More Angular Design

The display is flush with the front panel rather than recessed, side buttons are squeezable with haptic feedback, and the overall look will more closely resemble the Kindle HDX tablets.

5. Custom-Built Font

To further improve the reading experience, the new custom-built font is said to be specially designed, on top of hyphenation to get rid of awkward right hand margins, also making reading easier on the eyes.

There’s no major software upgrade planning for this edition and Amazon has yet to set prices for “Ice Wine”, TechCrunch reported.

Genre Fiction is the Future of eBooks

Along with the network popularization, increasingly maturated digital rights management technology and display technology, eBook industry continued to develop and grow. That early adopters of the digital format are genre fans who affect the digital market and make some forward-looking publishers to move to a digital-first publishing mode.

Genre fiction which focusses on the reader’s interest belongs to public reading, in contrast with professional reading. For people who want to read a lot of books, quickly and frequently, the digital format is the optimal format. They can read several books per month and enjoy fully the delight of a digital reading lifestyle. And now a certain consumer has migrated online, and the ease of buying these books has grown that consumer base substantially.

In eBooks, publishers concentrated on genre fictions like sci-fi, fantasy, mystery and romance, even though they are at the inferiority position compared with traditional literature. Not long ago, Random House and HarperCollins created the first digital-only imprints which are sci-fi/fantasy line Hydra, mystery line Alibi, “new adult”-targeted Flirt and romance-centric Loveswept, and the digital mystery imprint Witness was also founded in April this year. Suffice to say, it’s an optimal model that the genre of books are sold in the eBook market. The sales of genre fiction lived up to what publishers’ expectation and continued to grow.

High-quality UX is one of the important factors in promoting digital marketing. Before printed books come on the market, all kinds of consumer feedback can be offered to publishers online. Publishers change the cover, the title and print volume to adapt to reader response. It’s establishing a good co-operative relationship between eBooks, genre fans and publishers. I thought that genre fiction will continue to play a leading role in the eBooks business for a long time.

5 Reasons an E-Ink Kindle is Better than Kindle Fire HDX Tablet for Reading

I am pretty a hardcore eBook fan. 15 years ago, I begin to read .chm books on my desktop; 5 years later, I bought a MP3 player which supported .txt file; another 5 years later, I read digital books on my cellphone. Then iPod Touch, Kindle Fire, iPad, and Kindle.
The more I read on my Kindle Paperwhite, the more I feel reading on it is far more comfortable than any tablet computer, certainly including Kindle Fire HDX. Following are the main 5 reasons why I think so, and they are all based on my personal experience. PS: I am talking about just eBooks, digital textbooks and magazines are not discussed here.

1. Eyes-Friendly

The high brightness from tablet screen easily causes eye-strain, but the worse problem is the glare. In sunlight, you are definitely impossible to read on an iPad or Kindle Fire HDX. When it's dark the reflection of the lights will also makes reading an annoying stuff. While the eye-strain and glare problems are all not existing on Kindle Paperwhite or even a $69 Kindle.

2. Pure Reading

How many times your reading joy is interrupted by a retweet notification? Yes I like my Gmail, Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter and other apps, they all bring me a lot of fun, but I just don't want them to disperse my focus on reading.

3. Weight

Generally speaking holding an iPad or Kindle Fire HDX with one hand to read over 30 minutes you will feel arm strain. A Kindle Paperwhite is only 7.3 oz in weight, while Kindle Fire HDX weights 10.7 oz at least.

4. Battery

Battery life is the Achilles' heels of all the tablet computer. With a full battery charging, my Kindle Paperwhite stands at least 3 weeks with WiFi connecting while iPad only stands 3-4 days.

5. Price

Everyone cares about the price. If my Kindle breaks in next minutes I will just order another one from Amazon.

How to Get iWork Suits for Free on Old Mac (Purchased Before Oct. 1)

I guess many of you have already known that Apple has set iWork suit free with the release of new generation of Mac computers and iPad Air. Any people who purchased the new generation of Apple devices can get the Pages, Numbers and Keynote for free once they visit AppStore.

And the iWork can also be installed without a dime for those people who purchased Mac computers or iOS devices after Octover 1, 2013. I guess that would be a huge pity for a person just bought an iMac on Sep. 30.

But now, all the Mac computer users can get the iWork suit for free no matter you bought the Mac in 2011 or after Oct.1 2013. There is only one premise: You must upgrade your OS X to 10.9 Mavericks. And the trick is based on a bug in Mavericks, but don't worry, you won't be punished by using this bug, as Apple said: "Enjoy it."

OK, let's rock.

1. Download this zip file, unzip it you will see the iWork and iLife app, in fact they are just sort of “empty shells”. Now copy these "fake apps" into your Application folder.
2. Make sure your system language is English, if not, change it to English.

3. Restart computer.

4. Click the Apple icon in the top bar and choose "Software Update...", you will see the iWork and iLife suits can be updated.
5. Click "UPDATE" and input your Apple ID, then you can get all these great apps for free. And I guess all these apps will also recorded as your purchased app.

6. Enjoy it.

Where to find the EPUB file in iBooks for Mac under OS X 10.9 Mavericks

After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.9, many eBook lovers are excited about the iBooks for Mac app. But this app makes many people disappointed as they cannot even find the EPUB files in the local drive.

After hours of research, I finally find the hidden path where the iBooks EPUB files are saved. The path is "/Users/~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks".
Some users may find that the "Library" folder cannot be found, in this situation you need  to make the hidden "Library" folder visible.

To make the Library folder visible, please open the "Terminal" on Mac, then input "chflags nohidden /Users/~(your user name)/Library".
Marsattacks's tip to show the Library folder in an easier way: Just select user in finder sidebar, click 'command j' to show options, and select 'show library'.  - Thanks, Mars
And that is not the end of the job. By entering the deep iBooks folder, you will find the books are not saved in .EPUB extension, but a folder with the name ended with .EPUB.

Don't worry, those folders ended with .EPUB are actually your EPUB books, to get a complete .EPUB file, just zip the folder and make the extension name as ".epub", then you can get an complete .EPUB file from iBooks for Mac app in Mac OS X 10.8 Mavericks.

How to Read Feedly On Kindle

Since Google closed their RSS reader service Google Reader, many users had to switch to another RSS reader service, and Feedly is the lucky dog among all the competitors, it won most of  former Google Reader users and kept refreshing their records.

With Google Reader, we have so many choices to push the contents to our eBook Reader gadget like Kindle. I can remember last year, I always connect my Kindle to WiFi after wake up to get RSS contents, then read them on my way to work.

I've searched long time for a handy tool which helps me read my feeds on Kindle ever since I switch from Google Reader to Feedly, until days ago I found this website: FabReadly.

Anyone is able to use without any instruction, just sign in with Feedly and register an account, input your Kindle email address then you can read your RSS contnets on your Kindle.

FabReadly supports Kindle devices and Sony PRS-T2 at the moment, the pushed content even includes images. In addition, you can link your FabReadly account to Pocket and Evernote, then you can save an article to Pocket or Evernote on your Kindle.

However, this service is still in beta version, I believe more handy features are on the way. The most important thing for it, is users, more and more users.

Tablo is an Australian start-up, the duo Co-Founder want to help people publish their works on the internet more easily. In the first month their revenues hit $12,000 and there are over 150 authors from 30 countries subscribing their service.

Tablo doesn't sell books on their own platform, they only help people publish the book and sell on Amazon & iBookstore. And Tablo also helps authors reply ISBN, which save their asses from the fussy process.

At the moment Tablo supports 2 ways to publish an eBook: One is copy the contents to Tablo's WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor chapter by chapter; or directly upload an EPUB file which meets iBookstore's file standard. The eBook making part is totally free. But if you want to sell the book on Amazon or iBookstore, then you have to pay $99 for one book, or $599 for ten books.

This is the working desk where we can make an eBook.

And the preview mode.
